Understanding the Subhadra Yojna: Empowering Women Financially
The Subhadra Yojna is an initiative by the Indian government aimed at enhancing the financial independence of women in Odisha. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2024, in Bhubaneswar, this scheme marks a significant step towards fostering economic empowerment among women. With a unique focus on direct financial support, the scheme is designed to benefit over 1 crore women across the state, making it one of the largest women-centric schemes in India.
What is the Subhadra Yojna?
Under the Subhadra Yojna, eligible women will receive a total financial assistance of Rs 50,000 over a span of five years, from 2024 to 2029. The annual disbursement of Rs 10,000 will be provided in two installments: Rs 5,000 will be credited on Rakhi Purnima, while the remaining Rs 5,000 will be delivered on International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8. The assistance will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring quick and hassle-free access to funds. More than 10 lakh women have already received their benefits since the scheme’s inception.
Key Benefits of the Subhadra Yojna
Financial Empowerment | Women will receive Rs 50,000 over five years, which can significantly help in their financial stability. |

Eligibility Criteria for Applicants
To apply for the Subhadra Yojna, women must meet the following criteria:
- Residents of Odisha.
- Aged between 21 to 60 years.
- Not currently receiving monetary assistance exceeding Rs 1,500 per month from other government welfare schemes.
When Will You Receive Your First Installment?
The first installment of Rs 5,000 will be disbursed on Rakhi Purnima, which falls on August 9, 2025. The second installment will be released on March 8, 2025, coinciding with International Women’s Day.
Implementation of the Scheme
The Subhadra Yojna will be implemented across all 30 districts of Odisha, ensuring that eligible women in both urban and rural areas can benefit from the scheme.

Women can apply for the Subhadra Yojna either online or offline.
Online Application
To apply online, women can visit the designated Subhadra Yojna portal.
Offline Application
Application forms will be available free of charge at various locations, such as:
- Anganwadi Centres
- Block Offices
- Mo Seva Kendras
- Common Service Centres
Completed forms should be submitted at the same centres.

Who Is Not Eligible?
The following individuals are ineligible to apply for the scheme:
- Women under 21 years or above 60 years of age.
- Individuals holding public office.
- Women receiving financial assistance exceeding Rs 1,500 per month from other government programs.
Scheduled Payment Dates
The first payment of Rs 5,000 will be made on Rakhi Purnima, August 9, 2025. The second installment of Rs 5,000 will be transferred on March 8, 2025.
