Students Block Intersection at Kashi Hindu Vishwavidyalaya Over Food Shortage, Proctoral Team Responds

Students at Kashi Hindu University Suffer Due to Lack of Food

Students at Kashi Hindu University are currently facing a crisis due to the unavailability of food in their hostel. This has prompted a protest by the residents of Birla-A Hostel, where hundreds of students took to the streets in a late-night sit-in demonstration. The students voiced their grievances regarding multiple unresolved issues in the hostel, primarily focusing on the lack of food and poor living conditions.

Protest Dynamics

The protest saw not just the usual crowd but also included visually impaired students, indicating a widespread dissatisfaction among the hostel residents. The students have accused the administration, specifically the hostel warden, of negligence and have demanded their removal. Despite the attempts of a university team to engage with the students and find a resolution, the protestors remained resolute in their demands.

Critical Issues Highlighted

One of the most alarming claims made by the students is that they have been without proper food for the past 20 days, despite each spending approximately ₹3,500 on food services. The students have been forced to seek meals at a distant location, which poses significant challenges, particularly for those with visual impairments. This lack of basic sustenance has pushed them to resort to protests as a last resort to voice their concerns.

Student Demands

The protesting students have laid out several key demands:

Demands Description
Quality Food Provision of high-quality meals at a reasonable cost within the hostel.
Library Facilities Creation of a library equipped with computers specifically for disabled students.
Cleanliness and Water Improved cleanliness standards and readily available drinking water facilities.

Continued Protests

The students’ protest, fueled by their urgent need for better living conditions and food security, shows no signs of abating. They’ve expressed frustration at the lack of response despite their numerous complaints to the administration. The Proctorial Board has been involved, but effective resolutions remain elusive, leading students to feel neglected and unheard. With their basic needs unmet, the students assert their right to safe and nutritious food, urging university officials to take their plight seriously.
