Shocking Twist: Mohammad Rizwan’s World Record Broken by West Indies Batsman!

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 is currently capturing attention with thrilling matches taking place in the beautiful islands of the West Indies. Among the standout performers in this year’s league is West Indies star batsman Nicholas Pooran, who has been showcasing exceptional form. With a series of impactful innings, Pooran continues to etch his name in cricket history by breaking significant records.

Nicholas Pooran Breaks Mohammad Rizwan’s World Record

One of the latest highlights of Pooran’s impressive campaign came in a match between Trinbago Knight Riders and Barbados Royals, where he achieved a monumental feat by surpassing a long-standing record held by Pakistani batsman Mohammad Rizwan. In the year 2021, Rizwan set the bar high by scoring 2,036 runs in T20 cricket, claiming the title for the most runs scored in a calendar year. However, in 2024, Nicholas Pooran has not only matched but exceeded this achievement by accumulating a staggering 2,059 runs so far, earning him the prestigious distinction of being the top run-scorer in a single calendar year of T20 cricket.

During his remarkable innings of 27 runs off just 15 balls against Barbados Royals, Pooran demonstrated his explosive batting prowess, hitting 4 fours and 1 six. This performance allowed him to surpass Rizwan’s record by a mere 5 runs, making him only the second batsman ever to cross the 2,000-run milestone in T20 cricket within a calendar year, a remarkable feat initially accomplished by Rizwan.

Nicholas Pooran’s Additional Achievements

In addition to this monumental achievement, Nicholas Pooran has recently made headlines for setting a new record for the most sixes hit in a calendar year of T20 cricket. This year, he has shattered the 150 sixes mark, becoming the first batsman in T20 history to do so. Previously, the record for most sixes in a calendar year was held by the legendary Chris Gayle, who hit 135 sixes in 2015. Pooran’s extraordinary ability to clear the ropes consistently not only adds excitement to his innings but also underscores his evolution as one of the most explosive batsmen in the format.

As the CPL 2024 unfolds, cricket fans around the world are eagerly watching Pooran’s journey. With his record-breaking performances, he is establishing himself as a key figure in T20 cricket, igniting discussions about his potential future impacts both for the West Indies team and in cricket at large.
