PM Modi Shares Childhood Memories with National Teachers Award Winners

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently held an engaging interaction with the esteemed recipients of the National Teacher Award, a prestigious recognition granted to educators who have made exceptional contributions to the field of teaching. During this interaction, the award-winning teachers shared their invaluable experiences, while PM Modi fondly recounted some of his childhood memories, reflecting on the profound impact that educators can have on their students’ lives.

Emphasizing the Importance of Language and Culture

In his address, PM Modi reminisced, “When I was young, my school teacher encouraged me to begin reading the Ramayana by Rajaji slowly.” He urged teachers to weave local folklore into their lessons and to teach students in various languages, emphasizing the significance of understanding diverse cultures. By promoting the learning of local languages and stories, he believes that students will gain a richer and more vibrant understanding of their heritage.

Responsibilities of Educators

   

PM Modi articulated the pivotal role that teachers play in sculpting the future of the nation, stating, “The responsibility of preparing today’s youth for a developed India lies in the hands of teachers.” He delved into the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, underscoring its transformative potential in the education sector. Additionally, he highlighted the critical importance of learning in one’s mother tongue, as it fosters a deeper connection to one’s cultural roots.

Promoting Local Experiences and Tourism

Furthermore, PM Modi encouraged educators to organize educational tours that would allow students to discover India’s diverse cultural landscape. These excursions not only enhance students’ learning experiences but also support local tourism, thereby contributing to the economy. He advocated for the formation of networks among award-winning teachers through social media, promoting collaboration, collective learning, and professional growth.

Recognizing Exceptional Contributors

Among the notable recipients of the National Teacher Award was Urfana Amin from Jammu and Kashmir, recognized for her extraordinary efforts in developing educational materials during the COVID-19 pandemic. The list of honorees also featured distinguished figures such as Professor Nidhi Jain from IIT Delhi, Professor Vinay Sharma from IIT Roorkee, and Professor Srinivas Hotha from IISER Pune, all acknowledged for their remarkable contributions to the fields of chemistry and environmental management.

Celebrating Educational Excellence

This year, a total of 82 dedicated teachers from various parts of the country were awarded the ‘National Teachers Award’. The selection included 50 educators acknowledged by the Department of School Education and Literacy, along with 16 teachers from the Department of Higher Education and another 16 from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. This recognition highlights the crucial role educators play in nurturing future leaders and innovators.
