Mohanlal’s L2 Empuraan is the second part of the Lucifer trilogy. The first part, titled Lucifer, was released in 2019 and was a massive hit instantly. Because of COVID-19, the production of L2 Empuraan was stopped and resumed only in late 2023. The delay had the fans dejected, but when the movie’s release was finally announced, they reacted with enthusiasm and great joy.
L2: Empuraan Box Office Day 1 Prediction
L2 Empuraan was released today in all languages, and according to the movie tracker Sachnilk, Empuraan already earned 4.23 crores at the box office (figures will change by the end of the day). A million tickets were sold during the Advance booking on BookMyShow alone. Empuraan is the first Malayalam film to have a million+ bookings before its release date.
Reports and rumors from last week and earlier this week estimated that Empuraan would easily score 80 crores at the box office on its opening day. It remains to be seen if this will come true and if Empuraan was worth waiting for 5 years.

Critics and fans who watched the movie are overwhelmed with positive praise and say that the impact of Empuraan can never be taken away from them.

While a few found the movie to be an absolute masterpiece, some people disagree. They believe the violence isn’t justified and is slow in its pace.
One wrote, “The first 15–20 minutes are filled with unnecessary, brutal fight sequences and random killings that seem to serve no real purpose except to shock the audience. But shock without substance rarely holds value.” Another one wrote: “The movie is painfully slow, dragging on without any real impact.”

From the trailer, we can see that the background of the political thriller remains untouched. The visuals and the scale of productions were quite intimidating as well, but the actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran said in an interview with SCREEN that Empuraan is a story that goes deep and beyond the screen and visuals.
He also said, the story is carefully crafted and has many interesting layers. The film mainly focuses on content and a strong storyline. Because without depth they might not even tried to make such a movie. It’s not only about flashy visuals and cool shots but about making a movie with a strong storyline which appeals to the audience.
Written by Murali Gopy and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2 Empuraan was jointly produced by Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas, Gokulam Gopalan of Sree Gokulam Movies, and A. Subaskaran from Lyca Productions.
