Kantara Chapter 1, the much-awaited prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, is all set for release on 2nd October, coinciding with Dussehra. Directed and starring Rishab Shetty, the film has created a lot of buzz even before its launch.
Strong Advance Booking Numbers
Advance booking reports show a solid response across India. As of now, the film has grossed around ₹13 crore in advance sales for the opening day alone. The Kannada version leads with ₹7.85 crore, followed by the Hindi version contributing ₹2.10 crore. The film will release in five languages, including Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam.
Box Office Expectations
Trade experts predict a ₹30-40 crore net opening for Kantara Chapter 1 across India. A ₹15-17 crore contribution from the Hindi belt is expected, though slightly lower than earlier optimistic forecasts. This first-day opening is bigger than most Bollywood releases this year, like Saiyaara and Chhaava. However, the film faces tough competition from pan-India blockbusters like OG and Coolie.
About Kantara Chapter 1
The film is a prequel set centuries before the events of the original. It explores the mysteries and folklore introduced in Kantara and stars Rishab Shetty alongside Rukmini Vasanth and Gulshan Devaiah. The movie promises to blend mythology, action, and tradition, continuing the saga deeply rooted in Karnataka culture.
Pan-India Reach and Challenges
Kantara Chapter 1 has the widest release ever, hitting theaters in 11,627 shows across India. It has already sold over 4 lakh tickets in advance. While its Karnataka and Hindi versions show strong numbers, regional markets like Tamil Nadu may present challenges. The film’s release coincides with other big movies, making the box office battle intense.
