Reservation of Employment for Former Firefighters in BrahMos Aerospace

BrahMos Aerospace has taken a significant step by becoming the first organization to offer reserved employment positions for Agniveers under the Agneepath scheme. This initiative is designed to create opportunities not only in private companies but also within public sector undertakings (PSUs) and defense public sector undertakings (DPSUs).

Strategic Allocation of Positions

As part of this initiative, BrahMos Aerospace plans to reserve at least 15% of technical and general positions for former Agniveers. Furthermore, an impressive 50% of posts in administrative and security roles, including those related to outsourced work, will also be reserved for these ex-servicemen. This allocation signifies a commitment to integrating skilled individuals who have undergone military training into the civilian workforce, thereby leveraging their proficiency and discipline.

Collaboration with Industry Partners

BrahMos is not just acting alone; the company is actively encouraging its extensive network of over 200 industry partners to adopt similar practices. They are being urged to reserve 15% of their workforce specifically for Agniveers in roles that align with the operational needs of BrahMos Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. (BAPL). In addition to typical employment opportunities, Agniveers will also find pathways into outsourcing contracts, allowing them to smoothly transition back into civilian careers.

Valuable Skills from Military Training

Anil Mishra, the Director of Human Resources and Administration at BrahMos, highlighted the unique value that Agniveers bring to the table. He stated that their military experience endows them with invaluable skills and a strong sense of duty, traits which stand to benefit BrahMos and the wider defense sector immensely.

The Agneepath Scheme: A Brief Overview

The Agneepath scheme, introduced in 2022, aims to recruit young individuals for service in the armed forces for a tenure of four years. During this period, along with military training, Agniveers receive specialized training in technical and operational areas, including firefighting. This equips them with diverse skill sets that are highly applicable in various industries.

Wider Impact on Employment for Former Firefighters

Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Joshi, Deputy CEO of BrahMos Aerospace, emphasized the potential of the Agneepath scheme to facilitate employment opportunities by fostering collaborations with companies that fulfill at least 50% of the eligibility criteria for Agniveer recruitment. He expressed optimism that this innovative approach will not only benefit BrahMos but also create avenues for various corporate entities and the broader defense industry.

Additional Reservations Beyond BrahMos

Former firefighters are not limited to opportunities within BrahMos Aerospace. They have secured a 10% reservation for posts in key security forces such as the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Additionally, provisions have been made for relaxation in physical fitness tests and age limits, facilitating access to these roles. Continued support is evident with similar accommodations provided in Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UP PSC) recruitments.

Conclusion

The proactive measures undertaken by BrahMos Aerospace reflect a growing recognition of the contributions made by former Agniveers. By creating structured employment pathways, the company not only honors the service of these individuals but also enhances the talent pool within the defense and civilian sectors. This initiative marks a pivotal moment in integrating ex-servicemen into the workforce, enabling them to utilize their unique skills in productive ways.
