Google Expands Pixel Smartphone Lineup in India

American technology giant Google has made significant strides in the Indian market this year, launching a total of four innovative Pixel smartphones. In addition to these smartphones, tech enthusiasts can also look forward to the Pixel Watch 3 series and Pixel Buds Pro 2 true wireless stereo (TWS) earphones. However, it is noteworthy that only two of these products are currently available for sale, with Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold being sold through the popular e-commerce site Flipkart.

Launch and Availability of Pixel 9 Pro Fold

According to information from Flipkart’s mobile app microsite, the sale of the much-anticipated Pixel 9 Pro Fold is slated to commence on September 4. This foldable smartphone comes with a price tag of Rs 1,49,499, inclusive of various bank offers and discounts, and it is also available for purchase through an EMI option starting at Rs 12,459 per month.

Specifications and Features

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will only be available in a configuration with 256 GB of internal storage. This model also comes with an attractive offer of free 2 TB of storage for one year as part of Google One’s Gemini Advanced plan, which is an excellent addition for users who need ample storage for their photos, videos, and files.

In addition to Flipkart, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is also listed on Cromaโ€™s website, indicating strong retail support for this flagship device. It is worth noting that Googleโ€™s Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL have been available for purchase since last month and have attracted considerable attention, reportedly selling out in several regions due to overwhelming demand.

Upcoming Models and Local Manufacturing

In a bid to strengthen its presence in the Indian market, Google is also focusing on local manufacturing. The latest addition to the Pixel lineup, the Pixel 8a, launched in May this year and serves as a successor to the Pixel 7a. Google has announced plans to manufacture the Pixel 8a domestically as well, although specific timelines for its production have yet to be disclosed.

To facilitate this local manufacturing initiative, Google has partnered with Compal, an international manufacturing entity, and Dixon Technologies. The initial production capacity of the factory is set at about 100,000 units per month, with an estimated 30% of this output earmarked for export. Many smartphone companies, including Samsung, have also started local manufacturing initiatives in recent years, reflecting a growing trend in the industry.
