Introduction
Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) is making significant strides towards sustainability by partnering with Static, a leading charging network in India, to create a state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at the airport. This initiative aims to support the airport’s commitment to reducing emissions and promoting clean transportation solutions, reflecting a growing trend in the aviation industry to prioritize environmental responsibility.
The Strategic Partnership
On September 17, 2023, NIAL officially announced its strategic collaboration with Static. Under this partnership, Static will be responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the EV charging stations located on the airside of the airport premises. This innovative move will greatly benefit airport permit holders and various airport vehicles, ensuring they have easy access to EV charging facilities.
Improving Airport Operations
The installation of this EV charging infrastructure is a significant part of NIAL’s sustainability initiatives. By enabling access to electric ground support equipment (GSE) and other electric vehicles on-site, the airport is taking concrete steps to minimize its carbon footprint and enhance the overall efficiency of airport operations.
Phased Implementation
The first phase of this project will see the installation of 7.4 kW AC chargers designed for smaller electric vehicles. Additionally, a range of fast chargers, including 120 kW and 240 kW options, will be introduced to accommodate rapid charging needs. This diverse array of charging options will ensure that all airport partners can swiftly charge their electric fleets, supporting a seamless operational flow.
Leadership Insight
Nicholas Schenk, Chief Development Officer at Noida International Airport, expressed enthusiasm regarding the partnership, stating, “We are delighted to partner with Static. It has one of the largest electric vehicle charging networks in India.” His comments highlight the strategic importance of having a reliable charging network that operates around the clock, ensuring that EV charging is readily available for all airside operations.
Benefits of Advanced Charging Technology
The advanced charging technology provided by Static is expected to help the airport achieve its ambitious sustainability goals. By implementing such infrastructure, the airport aligns itself with both global and national efforts aimed at promoting clean transportation and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Future Outlook – Expanding Capacity
The first phase of Noida International Airport will feature one runway and a terminal that can handle up to 12 million passengers annually. Once all phases of the airport’s construction are completed, its capacity is set to increase dramatically, catering to an impressive 70 million passengers each year. This expansion represents a major investment in both infrastructure and sustainability in the rapidly growing region.
