This year, the renowned Lalbaugcha Raja has truly captivated devotees and visitors alike during the annual Ganesh festival in Mumbai. The idol of Lord Ganesha is adorned with a stunning 20 kg gold crown, valued at approximately ₹15 crore, a gracious gift from Anant Ambani and Reliance Foundation. This magnificent crown not only enhances the grandeur of the festival but also symbolizes the longstanding relationship between Anant Ambani and the Lalbaugcha Raja Committee.
The first sighting of this year’s Lalbaugcha Raja took place on the evening of September 5. Dressed in an elegant dark red attire, the idol has become the focal point of attraction thanks to its exquisite gold crown, which underwent two months of meticulous craftsmanship before being unveiled. The tradition of giving such elaborate gifts to the Lalbaugcha Raja dates back years, and this year’s crown stands as a testament to that enduring bond.
Celebrations for Ganeshotsav organized by the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal are running from September 7 through September 17, 2024. Anant Ambani’s association with this beloved celebration spans 15 years. His active participation and generous support to the committee exemplify his commitment to the festival and the community.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the committee faced severe financial difficulties, Ambani made significant contributions by donating 24 dialysis machines. This gesture reflects his dedication to the welfare of the society and showcases his philanthropic spirit.
In acknowledgment of his unwavering contribution, Anant Ambani has received honorary membership of the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal and has also been appointed the executive advisor to the committee. This prestigious recognition illustrates the deep bond and trust that has developed over the years between him and this iconic institution.
Lalbaugcha Raja—often referred to as ‘Lalbaug Ka Raja’—is one of the most frequented Ganesh pandals in Mumbai during the festival. Every year, thousands of devotees flock to witness the magnificent idol, eager for a glimpse of Lord Ganesha.
