Google has started rolling out a feature that allows users to change their @gmail.com address for an existing account without creating a new profile, a development that could benefit millions of Indians who use Gmail for work, banking, education and government services.

The new option lets users replace their Gmail username while retaining the same Google Account. All account data — emails, Google Drive files, Photos, Calendar entries, Contacts and access to services such as YouTube and Google Play — remain intact. Old address remains an alias
After a change, the previous Gmail address continues to function as an alias. Emails sent to the old address are delivered to the same inbox, reducing the risk of missed messages from banks, employers or government platforms that may still have the old contact on record.
