Rajkumar Rao showed his hefty and emotional side, emerging as Maalik. Manushi Chillar played the role of Shalini, which adds attraction and power. Huma Qureshi can be seen as Mallika, which gives the film a special touch. Also, experienced actors such as Prossenjit Chatterjee and Saurabh Shukla give depth to their powerful roles.
According to Filmibeat, the Maalik movie was made with a budget of Rs 54 crores where Rajkummar Rao alone took between Rs 10 – Rs 15 Crores as his acting fees.

Maalik is a classic Bollywood action drama of Allahabad in the 1990s, which shows the rise and fall of an ordinary man. While the story is known, Rajkumar Rao shines as an unexpected action hero to bring energy and spirit to the role. The first half of the movie is filled with lively dialogue and a strong local taste, but the second half is lost and feels scattered, with many subplots. In spite of his deficiencies, Maalik entertains with his own style, and Rao’s prominent performance stands out.
As of today, Maalik has an 8.1 star out of 10 on the movie rating platform IMDb with more than 6.5K reviews. Also, it managed to score 8.2 out of 10 on the online ticket booking platform Book My Show, with more than 7K reviews. However, The Times of India gives the movie only 2 out of 5.
