L2 Empuraan’s box office collections will forever be bookmarked in the Malayalam film industry. Its performance made fans and critics confident it would join the 100 crore club over the weekend. But to their disappointment, Empuraan couldn’t achieve that feat; it is only 2 crores away. Yesterday, on day 11, the movie earned ₹3.97 Cr, bringing the total to ₹98.47 Cr.

Despite sparking political controversies and debates about the limits of artistic freedom, Empuraan left a great impression on its viewers. It was one of the most anticipated films of the year, and the Malayalam political thriller delivered on its promise. The creators shared the movie’s worldwide collections on social media and celebrated their success. Currently, the worldwide collections stand at Rs. 247.50 crore.
L2 Empuraan beat KGF Chapter 1 and Manjummel Boys last week. These films bagged lifetime collections of 238 Crores and 240 Crores, respectively. Although Empuraan became the biggest opener in the Malayalam film industry, it has a long way to go before becoming one of the ‘greatest hits’ of South Indian films. This list has movies that earned 1000 crores and more worldwide- KGF Chapter 2, Baahubali 2, Pushpa 2, RRR and Kalki 2898 AD, and 2.0.
However, the popularity of Malayalam films has been rising for the past few years. Their story and character focus narratives appeal to the public and give an experience that only a few others can. So even if Empuraan doesn’t make it to the list, the Malayalam film industry has great scope to make it happen.

When Jatin seats himself as the CM, Kerala is vulnerable to political attacks. Jatin, selfish and greedy for power and position, neglects the public, leaving them to pray for Lucifer (AKA Kureshi Ab’raam) to return. Before his return, the movie shows us Kureshi’s past, who is also called Steven Nedumpally. Kureshi’s plans to mitigate the political power struggle while exposing Jatin’s corruption form the film’s core conflict.
