Kolkata Police Arrests Mahabharat's Draupadi, Roopa Ganguly – Discover Why!

Roopa Ganguly Arrested: The iconic mythological series ‘Mahabharata,’ directed by BR Chopra, has etched its place in the hearts of millions. The character of ‘Draupadi,’ played by actress Roopa Ganguly, gained immense popularity and acclaim, contributing to her successful career. Recently, Roopa Ganguly, a former Rajya Sabha MP and prominent BJP leader, found herself in the news for a different reason as she was arrested by Kolkata Police during a protest. Her demonstration, which began Wednesday night outside a police station, aimed to advocate for the release of BJP leader Ruby Das.

The Incident Unfolded

The backdrop of this protest involves a tragic incident in which a child lost their life after being struck by a payloader, a heavy machine used by employees of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) for road repairs. Ruby Das, a local woman BJP leader, along with her associates, organized a protest following this unfortunate event. The situation escalated when the South Kolkata Police intervened and arrested Das and several other BJP protesters. Upon learning about this situation, Roopa Ganguly immediately arrived at the Bansdroni police station and took a stand for Ruby Das’s release.

Allegations of Police Inaction

In a subsequent interview, Roopa Ganguly expressed her concerns about the treatment of the protesters. She accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers of assaulting the peaceful protesters while the police remained passive, failing to take action against the aggressors. Instead of protecting the protesters, the police opted to arrest them, according to Ganguly’s claims. Reports indicate that Roopa staged a vigil outside the police station throughout the night, only to be arrested the following morning at around 10 AM.

Roopa Ganguly’s Journey

Roopa Ganguly’s transition from acting to politics is noteworthy. Before stepping into the political arena, she earned widespread recognition for her outstanding performances, especially as ‘Draupadi’ in the critically acclaimed ‘Mahabharata.’ This role not only showcased her acting prowess but also won her numerous accolades. After serving as a Rajya Sabha MP, Ganguly has remained a vocal advocate for various social issues, strengthening her position within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and continuing to work towards the betterment of society.
