After leading India to victory in the T20 World Cup final, Rohit decided to step away from T20 cricket—a format he has always cherished. Alongside him, cricketing icons Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja also announced their retirements from T20 Internationals. In an interview with Jio Cinema, Rohit commented on the evolving nature of retirement in cricket, stating, “Retirement has become a joke in world cricket these days. Players announce their retirement and then come back to play. This trend is mostly seen outside India. When foreign players retire and then return, it creates confusion about their actual status. However, my decision is firm and I am very clear about it. It was the right time for me to say goodbye to a format I loved deeply.”

Rohit Sharma’s journey in T20 cricket spans 17 remarkable years. Throughout this period, he has been a crucial part of India’s T20 success, winning the T20 World Cup both as a player in 2007 and as a captain in 2024. He has participated in a total of 159 T20 matches representing India, where he accumulated 4,231 runs, including five centuries and 32 half-centuries. Focus on the World Test Championship
As Rohit shifts focus from T20 to Test cricket, his primary goal is to lead India to the final of the World Test Championship for a third consecutive time.
