Moeen Khan Urges Sachin & Ganguly to Support Pakistan in Champions Trophy

In the world of cricket, the passionate rivalry between India and Pakistan has always captured the hearts of fans around the globe. As the cricketing community gears up for the 2025 Champions Trophy, former Pakistani cricketer Moin Khan has made a heartfelt appeal to several legendary Indian players, urging them to advocate for India’s participation in the tournament. The event is set to be hosted by Pakistan, and its successful execution hinges on the cooperation of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Moin Khan’s Plea to Indian Icons

Moin Khan has reached out to cricket legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and Kapil Dev, requesting their support in convincing the BCCI to separate politics from sports. In an interview with Pakistani media, he emphasized, “All the former cricketers of India should advise their cricket board on this matter. Cricket should not be hindered by political differences—fans around the world are eager to witness India and Pakistan playing together on the field.” He believes that such matches would not only benefit Pakistan cricket but also enrich the global cricketing landscape.

Warning and Assurance for the BCCI

Moin Khan did not hold back in his remarks as he combined his appeal with a stern warning for the BCCI. He stated that if Team India chooses not to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, there may be future repercussions, suggesting that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may reconsider sending their players to India. This dual approach shows Moin’s deep concern for the future of cricket relations between the two nations.

Preparations for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan

As preparations ramp up for the Champions Trophy, the PCB has taken significant steps forward. Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is actively overseeing plans to enhance and repair stadiums across the country, with a staggering budget of Rs 1280 crore allocated for this purpose. Moreover, the ICC has contributed a substantial fund of 70 million dollars to ensure the tournament’s success. However, despite these preparations, the BCCI’s stance remains uncertain, heightening the anticipation surrounding the event.

Former BCCI Secretary’s Influence

Adding to the complexity of the situation is the involvement of former BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who now serves as the Chairman of the ICC. This dual role could potentially create a hybrid model for the tournament, which may allow for greater cooperation and compromise in the cricketing landscape between India and Pakistan.

Moin Khan’s Concern for His Son and PCB Allegations

In a recent disclosure, Moin Khan has also addressed serious concerns regarding his son, Azam Khan, who has faced significant challenges in his cricketing career. Moin alleged that Azam was previously the first-choice player for the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, after a disappointing defeat to the United States, he was dropped from the squad, which Moin believes has negatively affected Azam’s morale. He criticized former PCB chairman Rameez Raja, stating that his son’s exclusion from the 2021 T20 World Cup was unjust and undeserved.

Moin Khan’s statements reflect not only his commitment to his country’s cricketing future but also the complexities and personal stakes involved in the cricketing world. As the countdown to the Champions Trophy continues, the cricket community watches closely, hopeful for a resolution that allows for the revival of one of the greatest rivalries in sport.
