For past few months, mobile users have been complaining about increasing mobile recharges. In July 2024 telecom operators like Jio, Airtel, and VI increased their tariff rates by up to 25%. Only BSNL didn’t raise its prices and still launching new affordable recharge plans. In the mean, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India or TRAI has given good news for customers. TRAI has brought a new regulation that will ensure every company launches special recharge without data.

TRAI New Rule with Benefit Users

TRAI was not happy at all as users are paying more due to all recharge plans are coming with Data. Those who don’t need data are also forced to recharge higher plans. Even users with 2G and 3G mobiles are paying for 4G plans. This is why on January 7th TRAI issued guidelines to launch separate plans for calling and SMS only. This decision has brought joy in users faces.

In a Recent interview with TRAI Chairman highlighted the importance of promoting data usage, but that too ensuring a choice. TRAI is responsible to make a balance between interests of telecom companies and consumers. Telecom companies must offer plans to meet user specific needs.

Measures taken by TRAI

Recently the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has implemented new measures to enhance the traceability of text messages, focusing on commercial communications. Due to these guidelines, all commercial messages must be traceable from sender to recipient. This initiative will help to combat spam and fraudulent messages that disturbs mobile users.

To facilitate this transition, TRAI extended the deadline for compliance to November 30, allowing telecom operators time to upgrade their systems. The authority has communicated with various sector regulators and government departments to ensure that Principal Entities (PEs) and Telemarketers (TMs) comply with the new regulations promptly.

These changes are crucial in creating a safer messaging environment, as they will help identify and block unsolicited messages while ensuring that legitimate communications reach users without delay.
