Storyline and Cast
Retro follows Paarivel “Paari” Kannan, an orphan raised by way of a gangster, who dreams of a peaceful life with his love, Rukmini. After being framed and imprisoned, Paari escapes to the Andaman Islands, where he faces a lethal cult. Caught between his violent past and wish for redemption, he fights to reclaim his life and love.
Suriya stars as Paarivel “Paari” Kannan, with Pooja Hegde as his love interest, Rukmini. Joju George performs the antagonist Thilagan, supported by Jayaram and Nassar. The movie is directed by Karthik Subbaraj, marking his first collaboration with Suriya.
Movie Review
Retro impresses with Suriya’s severe overall performance and stunning visuals, specifically in its gripping first half. However, the movie loses momentum in the second half, weighed down with the aid of a muddled narrative and underdeveloped characters. While the music and movement sequences stand out, the emotional center feels remote, making the overall enjoy choppy. Despite its ambition and technical strengths, Retro ultimately falls brief of its potential, attractive in particular to Suriya’s lovers rather than a much wider target market.
