Phule, Directed by Ananth Mahadevan, was released on 25th April, and the movie didn’t perform as expected. Phule couldn’t reach the one crore benchmark on its first day and ended with a collection of 0.21 Crores. According to many critics, the second day may not end well either. According to reports, Phule has made just over 0.3 Crores since morning.

Phule is a cinematic recreation of the lives of one of the greatest social reformers and freedom fighters, Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule. The movie was made on a budget of Rs. 4 Crores; only time will tell if it can recover its earnings. The weekend, however, may bring better earnings for the movie.
Reaction To Phule
So far, the reaction to the movie has been overwhelmingly positive. Despite a few roadblocks and controversies surrounding the movie, the fans appreciated the screenplay, storyline and unique take on a historical Bollywood film.
A review read: “After many cuts, it finally released and we get movie without soul. But, whatever showed in the movie is really good and unbelievable.”Another said, “Brilliant acting, Direction and story is gripping. Watch toh banta hai.”
While a few liked Phule and how the challenging times were depicted, a few said the movie wasn’t researched well and was boringly prompting propaganda. A review read, “Bad acting, bad story. I saw nothing good in this film.”
About Phule: Story
The life and struggles of Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule, two of India’s greatest social reformers, and their bravery in speaking out against social injustices are chronicled in this movie. Savitribai, his wife, became India’s first female teacher after he educated her. Together, Savitribai and Jyotirao established a school for girls. Because of the opposition and taunts they received, their effort was extremely challenging, but they persisted. This movie demonstrates how they both battled against caste prejudice and crimes against widows and Sati Pratha. Savitribai became the voice of women in addition to being a teacher.
