Akaal has been running in theatres for 6 days now, becoming the best film of 2025, crossing Badnaam. On day 6, Akaal earned 0.52 Crores at the box office and, according to Sacnil, earned 0.02 Crores today. The movie was released in Punjabi and Hindi. Although the movie saw a significant dip in Saturday’s earnings, Akaal collected the most on Sunday by bagging 1.4 Crores. Akaal beat Badnaam’s Box Office, which was 90 lakh rupees, and earned the title of 2025’s best Punjabi film. It achieved this feat despite the protests against the movie that claimed to hurt religious sentiments.

Protests Against Akaal

Baba Bakshish Singh stated that Akaal should be banned for its disrespectful portrayal of Sikh warriors, showing Sikhs consuming alcohol, tobacco and without hair. He also commented on the actors playing the roles of warriors Hari Singh Nalwa and Jassa Singh Ahluwalia. He said any actor taking on the roles of such significant historical figures should do it with dignity. 

The makers of the film haven’t reacted to these comments yet; however, Baba Bakshish Singh was reportedly detained by police officers after he passed negative comments on the government.

About Akaal: Story and Cast

The historical movie follows the resilience and bravery of a Sikh warrior, Saradar Akaal Singh, who protects a village from  Jangi Jahan’s attacks. The attacks began after Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s death. 

Akaal was produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawala, Apoorva Mehta and Bhumika Tiwari from Dharma Productions. The film carries the cast of Gippy Grewal, Ravneet Kaur Grewal, Nimrat Khaira, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Nikitin Dheer, Mita Vashisht, Shinda Grewal, Ekom Grewal, Jaggi Singh, Ashish Duggal, Bhana La, Harinder Bhullar, and Jarnail Singh.
