Ajinkya Rahane Secures 2,000 Sq Meter Plot as Gavaskar’s Land is Reallocated!

Maharashtra Government Approves Sports Complex Land Lease to Ajinkya Rahane

Maharashtra Real Estate News: In a significant move for sports development in Maharashtra, the state Cabinet has given the green light for the leasing of a prime 2,000 square metre plot of land in Bandra, Mumbai, to renowned cricketer Ajinkya Rahane. This land, originally designated for legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar in 1988 to establish an indoor cricket academy, has remained unused for over three decades.

Cabinet Meeting Highlights

The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on September 23. The proposal from the Revenue Department to lease the land for 30 years was approved, allowing Rahane to develop a state-of-the-art sports complex aimed at fostering sporting talent in the region.

Background on the Land Allotment

Originally part of the plans for the “Sunil Gavaskar Cricket Foundation Trust,” the plot fell back into government possession due to a lack of development. The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) had previously passed a resolution recommending this plot for Rahane, which was subsequently endorsed by the Council of Ministers.

Current Conditions of the Plot

Reports indicate that the land is currently in a dilapidated state, being misused by local slum dwellers. The government aims to rectify this situation by developing the area into a modern sporting venue, thus also improving the locality.

Ajinkya Rahane’s Reaction

Upon receiving the news of the land allotment, Ajinkya Rahane expressed his gratitude to the Maharashtra government via a post on social media platform X, acknowledging the importance of this opportunity to contribute to sports infrastructure in Mumbai.

Upcoming Match Leadership for Mumbai

In addition to his entrepreneurial ventures, Rahane is set to lead Mumbai in the traditional Irani Cup match against the Rest of India, scheduled to take place in Lucknow from October 1. The team looks strong with the inclusion of top players such as Shreyas Iyer and Mushir Khan, while all-rounder Shardul Thakur returns after surgical recovery. However, the participation of Sarfaraz Khan remains uncertain due to his commitments to the Indian team.

Conclusion

This development marks a promising step toward enhancing sports facilities in Maharashtra, with Ajinkya Rahane at the forefront, aimed at nurturing the next generation of athletes while also respecting the legacy of the land’s previous allotment to Sunil Gavaskar.
